Welcome to Yashiro - Vessel of Vein!
This is my first game and its really important to me to take you with me on this ride. I want to show you everything - my creative process, ideas, game concepts, struggles, making art, music and coding. Literally everything!
Its my very first game but im a very ambitious guy. This wont be a little project just for fun (although we will have fun, oh boy!). This is the game i dream about and i want to play and im sure many of you too.
Many, MANY people in the game dev world would advise against starting to make games with their dream game. But i will. I just cant do little side projects when i know i have this big idea i want to bring to life. Reach for the stars is my motto. If you dont reach them you at least can reach the moon.
The Idea
Its simple. I want to create my dream game. The game i want to play over and over. So what do i like?
I like HARD games or at least challenging games. Yes im a Souls Fan. I love games with action where my adrenaline is spiking like crazy. Here are some games i really love and you can be sure they will play a role in my decisions on my game:
Dark Souls 3, Demon Souls, Sekiro, Hollow Knight, Hades, Ghost of Tsushima
As you can see these are games that you have to master. To this day the end boss of Sekiro is just a MASTERPIECE of boss design. The whole game you learn techniques and master the combat to fight this boss.
But i also want to make the game in a way so everybody can have a great experience. Im not sure how for now but maybe something like Hades did with the God Mode.
Art Style
2D. Its simple. It can be beautiful. Hollow Knight is so damn beautiful!
I want to create a 2D world where the atmosphere is tangible.
Genre
A soulslike, metroidvania Platformer in 2D with roguelite elements in a dark Japanese samurai theme.
Well thats a lot. But that sums it up quite perfectly. I love the Japanese vibe, the culture, everything. And Samurais are just awesome!
Theme
As i just mentioned i love the Japanese Samurai vibe. And this will be the theme. It will be quite dark but not exclusively.
Combat System
This will be the core aspect of the game! There will be mechanics similar to Sekiro and the deflect system which is awesome in my opinion. But also other mechanics and all of that has one goal:
Make the combat heavy, satisfying and fun.
I want to build a combat system where you want to start the game even for 5 minutes just to take some fights because its so damn fun!
Who are you?
Im a 30 years old and a Software Engineer for over 12 years know.
I play video games since i can use the big boy toilet and in my opinion video games are just pure magic. And art. And important.
Over the past years i had many hobbies including coding (well good for me with this job), art and making music. I also started to learn and play guitar. As a kid i really liked to create short stories and i read a lot of books.
Well, 2 months ago i realized all of these hobbies can be combined. WOW! Game Dev is everything i mentioned and more. Its a LOT of work but im all in to make this happen.
I want to be a Game Dev. A Game Designer. A Game Artist. A Game Sound Designer. I want to make games!
The Team
Its me.
No really, its just me. I want to create this game all by myself. This doesnt mean ill never work with somebody else but for now i really like to me my own boss (i still have a Day Job and a boss there but hopefully this will change) and do whatever i want.
Whats next?
In the next days and weeks i will improve my GDD and add missing parts there. Especially the core mechanics. After that i will define what exactly i want for my MVP so i know on what to concentrate. I need that because my ToDo list getting longer and longer each day.
In addition i will work on the art and draw the main character, weapon and the cover of the game to capture the atmosphere and feeling.
Im here for the long run and i invite you to join me on this journey.
It will be long. It will be hard. It will be fun. It will be stressful. It will be amazing. And awesome.
